Equipment

  • Large Saucepan
  • Tight Lid
  • Measuring Cups
  • Measuring Spoons
  • Wooden Spoon
  • Fine Mesh Strainer

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Long Grain White Rice
  • 2 tbsp Unsalted Butter
  • 1 cup Chicken Broth
  • 1 cup Beef Broth
  • 0.25 cup Diced Onion
  • 0.5 tsp Garlic Powder
  • 0.5 tsp Paprika
  • 0.25 tsp Cayenne Pepper
  • 0.25 tsp Black Pepper
  • 0.5 tsp Salt

Instructions

  1. Step 1

Place your rice in a mesh strainer. Hold it under cold running water. Rinse it until the water is clear. This removes extra starch from the rice. It helps keep the grains separate.
  2. Step 2

Place your large saucepan on the stove. Turn the heat to medium-high. Add the butter and diced onions. Cook until the onions are very soft. This takes about five minutes.
  3. Step 3

Add the rinsed rice to the pan. Sprinkle in all the dry spices now. Stir the rice for two minutes. This toasts the rice for better flavor. The rice will look slightly translucent.
  4. Step 4

Pour the chicken broth into the pan. Add the beef broth to the pan too. Stir everything together one last time. Bring the liquid to a rolling boil. Ensure the spices are mixed well.
  5. Step 5

Turn the heat down to very low. Place the tight lid on the pan. Let the rice simmer for twenty minutes. Do not open the lid at all. The steam must stay inside.
  6. Step 6

Remove the pan from the hot burner. Let it sit for five minutes. Use a wooden spoon to fluff it. Serve the rice while it is hot. It is now ready to eat.

Notes

➜ Use cold water to rinse the rice very well.
➜ Do not lift the lid while the rice simmers.
➜ Let the rice rest before you fluff it up.
➜ Add more cayenne if you want a spicy kick.
➜ Toast the rice in butter for extra flavor.
➜ Use low sodium broth to control the salt level.
➜ Dice the onions very small for a better texture.
