- 1 cup warm water
- 2.25 tsp active dry yeast
- 0.25 cup granulated sugar
- 4 tbsp melted butter
- 1 large egg
- 3.5 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp salt
- 2 tbsp honey for topping
- 2 tbsp butter for topping
Proof the Yeast
Get your large mixing bowl ready. Pour in the warm water first. Add the sugar and the yeast. Stir the mixture very gently. Let it sit for ten minutes. It should become very foamy. This means your yeast is alive.
Mix Wet Ingredients
Add the melted butter to the bowl. Crack the egg and add it too. Use your whisk to mix them. Everything should look very smooth. The smell will be very sweet.
Add the Dry Ingredients
Add the salt to the bowl. Start adding the flour slowly. Mix it with a big spoon. Keep adding flour until dough forms. The dough should pull away from sides.
Knead the Dough
Put dough on a floured surface. Knead it with your hands. Do this for five full minutes. The dough will become very smooth. It should feel soft and stretchy.
First Rise
Grease a bowl with some oil. Place the dough inside the bowl. Cover it with a warm towel. Put it in a warm spot. Let it rise for one hour. It should double in size.
Shape the Rolls
Punch the dough down gently. Divide it into twelve equal pieces. Roll each piece into a ball. Make them as smooth as possible. This makes them look very pretty.
Second Rise
Place balls on a baking sheet. Leave space between each roll. Cover them with the towel again. Let them rise for thirty minutes. They will look puffy and large.
Bake the Rolls
Heat your oven to 375 degrees. Put the rolls inside the oven. Bake for twelve to fifteen minutes. They should be a light golden brown. Do not overbake the bread.
Glaze and Serve
Mix honey and melted butter together. Brush this over the hot rolls. Use a lot of the glaze. Let them cool for a minute. Serve them while they are warm.
