  • Measuring Spoons
  • Electric Mixer
  • Parchment Paper
  • Rubber Spatula

Ingredients

  • 2.5 cups All-Purpose Flour
  • 0.75 cup Granulated Sugar
  • 1 cup Light Brown Sugar
  • 1 cup Unsalted Butter
  • 1.5 tsp Ground Cinnamon
  • 1 large Large Egg
  • 0.5 cup Sour Cream
  • 1 tsp Baking Powder
  • 1 tsp Vanilla Extract
  • 0.5 tsp Salt
  • 2 tbsp Confectioners Sugar

Instructions

  1. Step 1

Preheat your oven to 325 degrees F now. Grease your square baking pan with soft butter. Line the bottom with a piece of parchment paper.
  2. Step 2

Make the crumb topping in a medium bowl first. Mix flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt together. Pour the melted butter over the dry mixture.
  3. Step 3

Use a fork to stir the topping ingredients. Form the mixture into many large crumbs. Set the bowl aside to let them firm.
  4. Step 4

Whisk the flour and baking powder together now. Add a pinch of salt to the bowl. Set this dry mixture aside for later use.
  5. Step 5

Cream the butter and sugar in a large bowl. Use your electric mixer for a smooth texture. Add the egg and vanilla to the bowl.
  6. Step 6

Add the flour mixture and sour cream now. Mix until the batter is thick and smooth. Do not overmix the batter at this stage.
  7. Step 7

Spread the batter into your prepared baking pan. Make sure the layer is very even. Use your spatula to smooth the top surface.
  8. Step 8

Sprinkle the large crumbs all over the batter. Cover the entire surface with the crumb topping. Bake for 40 to 45 minutes until golden.

Notes

➜ Use cold butter for the crumbs to stay chunky.
➜ Do not overmix the cake batter to keep it soft.
➜ Always grease your pan well so it does not stick.
➜ Let the cake cool before adding the powdered sugar.
➜ Spoon flour into measuring cups for the best accuracy.
